Mexanik sariqlik ovqat hazm qilish va chiqindilarni yo'q qilish uchun zarur bo'lgan safro chiqishi qiyin bo'lganda paydo bo'ladi. Ko'pincha o'smalar, o't toshlari yoki yallig'lanish, jigarda safro to'planishiga olib keladi, natijada hujayralar shikastlanadi va jigar yetishmovchiligi rivojlanishi mumkin. An'anaviy muolajalar ba'zan shikastlanishni bartaraf eta olmasligi sababli, terapevtik plazmaferez muqobil choraga aylandi. Ushbu ekstrakorporal davo chorasi bemorning qonini tozalaydi, toksinlar va kasallik vositalarni organimdan chiqaradi, jigarning holatini yomonlashishini to'xtatishi yoki sog`lom holatiga qaytarishi mumkin.
